India has plans to design and build a new reusable rocket that can significantly reduce satellite launch costs for the global market, space department secretary and ISRO chairman S. Somanath said on Monday.

Addressing the seventh ‘Bangalore Space Expo 2022’ and later speaking to reporters, Somanath said that it currently costs around 10,000 to 15,000 US dollars to put 1 kg payload into orbit. 5,000 per kg of ours or 1,000 should be reduced.

The only way to do that is to make the rocket reusable. He said that today in india we do not have reusable technology in launch vehicles (rockets). So our idea is that the next rocket we build after GSLV mark iii should be a reusable rocket,” he said.
